A very laid back two day trip to various entrepreneurs on Kangaroo Island. No rush, plenty of time to talk to the owners/staff, good variety and good food provided. Lots of opportunities to buy the local produce and goods. Tour guide/driver a local, knowledgeable and loves his homeland. Great beaches and panoramic views. Hotel very comfortable and a good meal too.

The tour was cancelled due to bad weather conditions, which is completely understandable. The following customer service, or lack thereof, however, was horrible. The tour operators did not inform me about the cancellation and I was waiting for the bus from 6AM for close to half an hour - I was only told that it was cancelled when I called them up to query where the pick-up bus was. I then spoke to three staff members, who did not seem to quite care about the situation and also gave me conflicting information. One member told me there would be cancellation fees, which I found absurd given the situation is out of my hands, while another staff member I spoke to told me that was incorrect and there would be no cancellation fees charged. Lo and behold I was charged almost $300 in cancellation fees attributed to hotel's cancellation policy - these are not available on the hotel's website or in the cancellation policy/tour information. While the cancellation of the tour in itself was not an issue, the interactions I had with the staff has been an absolute nightmare.

It would seem that we picked the worst possible two days to explore Kangaroo Island. The unseasonal wet and extremely cold weather put a dampener on most of the outdoor phases of the excursion. The small aircraft early morning flight did not provide the spectacular views that we had anticipated because of the cloudy weather. But once on the ground and being bussed around the Islands tourist features, staying warm, we enjoyed the unique flora and fauna attributes of the area. The Tea Tree Plantation, the wild life outdoor zoo, the impressive rock formations, and the wild and storming coastline was as interesting and well presented as we had anticipated. My camera thankfully taken by the very courteous bus driver/guide, to the Remarkable Rocks site, produced the most expressive photos of our 3 months stay in the Land of the Wizard. The overnight stay at the Ozone Hotel was extremely comfortable as was the ferry ride back to the mainland. Not sure that we would take the flight again because of the variable weather conditions on this area. Could I suggest that all users of this package be very aware of the location of their hotel in Adelaide as being dropped at a closed Terminal late on the return night can be somewhat stressful? Not sure that the return driver had participated in the courtesy course that was obviously attended by our on-Island guide. Not such a pleasant end to what was overall a great Aussie experience. OzJdL
